My consistent theme has been to focus on the past and the present society. Underlying my work is my vision toward society; historical matters such as war; deprivation of human dignity in the contemporary society; the collapse of the consumer civilization. I am questioning the meaning of human existence to myselfe, to viewers and to society. In my work entitlled "The Absent Time" aim to express crisis of human dignity in the contemporary society. I took the photo which I used in the work at Auschwitz in Poland. I took the photo inside the gas room at Auschwitz. I installed installation work was same title as the Absent Time in Japan last year. Behind the Moon (I) (II), in the works I would like to express the collapse of the consumer civilization. I took the photos in special island near Tokyo. The island is made by a massive amount of garbages. Therefore the scenes in the photos are constructed by garbages are throwen from Japanese. Untitled, I don't have special meaning in the work. But I like the work. I took the photo on a train. Therefore I added flowing image on the photo. Minako Saitoh |
